In addition to the tangible loot, each character receives 900 xp for defeating the Zhents.

Since things seem to be moving slowly right now, is there anything I can do to clean up combat? As I said, this is my first time DMing a forum game, so I'm not quite sure how things are supposed to go.

Your doing fine so far, I would give the party a round to talk it out after combat what to do, if it seems like nothing important is being talked about by the characters or everyone is in agreement on what they should do you could move us along to the next spot along our journey.

If people seem to be talking about important stuff IC or the party is not in a majority of what to do next I would say hold of on moving things along. Same as RL DMing.

If you want some good examples of round by round combat, I can dig up something from a game I'm in.

That could be helpful if you don't mind. I don't think there were any particular problems just now, but I'm a little unused to running things this way.

I hadn't seen the OoC in a while, I feel honored Bel used that as a reference (it helps the group are really good at posting, combat is fast in that game except for the last encounter with a boring Elemental, DM notes: do not use elementals.)

    @spectralphoenix

Lots of discussion going on in the IC thread which all seems to assume that Tress has given us clear directions to the Eagle's Eyrie, but I'm not seeing any such thing. Do we get directions before the party starts walking out and, if so, how far is it from Dagger Falls?

    Knowledge Geography (1d20+2)[21]

As for Delmuth leaving hearing her make speculations and such he would try to use his own knowledge as had she known where it was exactly no doubt someone would have already gone there and ended the curse or vanished from the town for going to look there. So in his eyes she doesn't know the exact location, but the Zhent's might.

But hey Delmuth might apparently know where it is as well.

Ah, sorry, didn't see this. She can give a decent approximation, and it's on a big hill with some cliffs, so it shouldn't be too hard to find.

Since the discussion seems to have died down a bit, do people want to vote? I hear some people talking about going to the Eyrie and some going to the Constable, and some seem undecided. Please post what you want to do in here, and the party will follow the majority as of Monday night.

Speak to constable is delmuths vote. He may not like zhents however they have little in the realm of leads and it is best chance in his eyes of getting information.

I don't mind going to see the constable first, though it does run the risk of attracting the attention of the Zhentarim sooner rather than later.

Yes, it looks like going to see the Constable is the clear winner here, so maybe someone could put forth a plan of action for that?

    Sense Motive result:

You feel the Constable is being honest about there being something in the crypts he wants you to fight. His attempt to blame it on Morn is a little more ambiguous - he seems to sort of believe it but you get the impression that he believes everything that threatens his control of the Dale might be a plot by Morn.

Thus why they have not built their temple on the ruins, they can't risk losing the manpower going into the crypts and dying with the rebellion chomping on their bits so send mercs, if they succeed you look like the hero as you sent them to save the town. If they fail, you lost nothing as you didn't pay them or anything and your still in the same position as before. And saying Morn seems to be the leader of the rebels, at least in this area it makes sense he would assume that whatever is causing his troops trouble is because of Morn because why wouldn't it be when Morn has been doing it for so long it simply makes sense. Add in turning the public against Morn by putting the blame on him allows him to keep minor control of the town up until the point to many fall asleep at which point it would either become Morn storms the city "freeing" the people from Zhent rule (with or without a cure), the zhents leave the town before they lose more (unlikely), the town turns against Morn as more people keep falling asleep and never waking, or the people rally behind Morn.

The Zhents having a defensible position are no doubt trying to hold out for the option where the town rallies behind them as they can now use the townsfolk as shields proving Morn a bigger villain if he harms them, the people he says he is fighting to protect. All the while he is providing safety for the people in his little fortress should things degrade that far. Not a bad plan if I say so myself. Mind you probally not his motives, but from that little bit of text this is the line of thinking I assume Delmuth would follow for the Constable/Zhents at this time.
