To above: I'm no distributed computing fanatic but I would say a good start if you're using windows is Task Manager's CPU monitoring, though that may have changed (as above) or, again, if in Windows, using the system tray icon.
That only shows me how much memory it's using up. Other people were talking about it like they could see the problems it was working on.
Edit: I tried running the viewer, but it kept encountering problems and needing to close.
