Re: The Hunt for the Holy Grail OOC
Do we have a way of burning them out or getting them to come out or do we just wait until all the buffs wear off and knock?

Maybe, I don't know what sort of spells dusk raven's character has.

Re: The Hunt for the Holy Grail OOC
My spells (well, Wizard spells anyway) are all on my sheet, but to summarize... my character's not really a "burning" kind of gal. She does, however, have a wide variety of spells in which we can stand safely, but in which they definitely won't want to. Some, like an Uttercold Wall of Fire, will even provide us cover. Blacklight also provides cover in the form of darkness, but it also telegraphs our area, and I'm the only one who can actually see in it. And of course, there's good 'ol Dimension Door, assuming I can see our destination or have a good idea where an open space is inside. Suffice to say, I have options. I will exercise one of them immediately.
EDIT: I was going to ask if people wanted to teleport or if I should use a wall, but I'm not sure I can actually touch our ghosts in order to teleport them. Hmm. No matter, I have just the spell for this.
Post made. I have made the assumption that I can get two turns off uninterrupted, but let me know if this is a mistaken assumption.

Re: The Hunt for the Holy Grail OOC
given events i can say 2 turns off is fine, and i will permit "TOUCH" for ghosts to be teleported if its what is decided
given the range of 250ft from the monastery
1st Turn:
Move action: Get out that Quicken Metamagic rod, and hold it in the same arm as my buckler.
Standard Action: Cast Haste on everyone. That'll last for a good 15 turns.
2nd Turn:
Standard Action: Cast Spiritwall, from the Spell Compendium.
In short: Everyone within 60 feet of the other side of the wall must make a Will save (DC 24) or be frightened and flee for 1d4 rounds. In the meantime, the wall is both cover and concealment for all physical attacks, and blocks line of effect for magic. If living creatures go through the wall, they will not have a good time.
I'm a little unclear on how the area of the spell works, since the wording is different from, say, Wall of Fire. It's a "Swirling wall whose area is up to one 10-ft. square/level, or a sphere or hemisphere with a radius of up to 1 ft./level." I'm taking the former option, and I don't know if it conjures a number of "panels" that I can arrange as I like, or not, but if so I'm going to block as much of the front of the monastery as I can.
It'll last for 15 minutes, though we hardly need it that long.
Move action: Move with the aid of my new 60 foot movement speed towards the entrance.Last edited by samduke; 2024-05-13 at 07:59 AM.

My Mask of True Seeing lets me focus into the Ethereal, but I don't think I have the wisdom or intelligence to think of that idea, lol
Also, I figured I'd just kick things off with a literal meme.Last edited by Breitheamh; 2024-05-13 at 10:39 AM.

Re: The Hunt for the Holy Grail OOC
Spiritwall
Duration: 1 min./level (D)
Effect: Swirling wall whose area is up to one 10-ft. square/level, or a sphere or hemisphere with a radius of up to 1 ft./level
Presumptions that it will be disjunctioned on my part because your party is 250ft away
That you are casting it so that is is at or very near the entrance to the temple
& your caster level is at least 18 thus a 180ft square vs an 18ft hemisphere which would do nothing.
so if cast at a location so that a portion of the "wall" gets inside the temple where it might do some good... then it gets disjunctioned
RE:
Mask of True Seeing
okay so you have sight out to I believe 120ft, which will see nothing from your current position
RE:
Spellcraft: (1d20+23)[27]
you will realize at least on the haste spell that someone or something just dispelled it ; if we apply the disjunction as well then add you know they are powerful

Re: The Hunt for the Holy Grail OOC
No, it's entirely outside the temple. It's meant to serve as a visual obstruction first and foremost, and as such is just right outside of the front entrance, going east-west. It'll probably get disjunctioned anyway, since depending on interpretation, it might affect those inside even if the wall itself doesn't reach inside. I don't know if it's fear effect spreads around corners, the description just says creatures "within 60 feet."
I'll take the trade of a 5th-level spell to use up one of their 9th-levels (presumably), ultimately. It will make our approach more hazardous, however.

Re: The Hunt for the Holy Grail OOC
okay I asked how far you moved before dealing with the potential charge, I presumed that you move 20 ft/30ft. thus a charge is not an option from 250ft away
so instead I went with a "RUN" then adjudicated the spiritwall casting.
as this occurs Garg & Black Knight decide to charge the temple moving at a speed of 80ft, (garg 20ft x4 as if running) they are now at 170ft from the temple entrance.Last edited by samduke; 2024-05-16 at 03:58 PM.

Re: The Hunt for the Holy Grail OOC
Then I move until I’m in range to do that. We haven’t rolled initiative yet, so I didn’t realize we were using tactical movement.

Re: The Hunt for the Holy Grail OOC
Indeed, initiative would help.
Oh yeah, I meant to ask - can Dispel Magic be used to dispel an effect through something that blocks line of effect? This changes nothing about my post, but it will affect how quickly we get into combat.
Assuming the invisible one is not responsible for dispelling, of course, in which case the wall I put up helps me little against them.

Re: The Hunt for the Holy Grail OOC
If the party member(s) that have true seeing are within I believe 120ft of the temple entrance they can "SEE" the Ethereal man. They certainly could "WARN" of as well.
okay dispel and its greater versions. I am fairly certain require knowledge / LOS of the spell being cast. having read the entry a few times

Re: The Hunt for the Holy Grail OOC
Abyssal Blast (Su): Once per day a death knight can unleash a blast of eldritch fire. The blast fills a 20-foot-radius spread anywhere within a range of 400 feet + 40 feet per HD of the death knight. The blast deals 1d6 points of damage per HD of the death knight (maximum 20d6). Half of the damage is fire damage, but the rest results directly from divine power and is therefore not subject to being reduced by protection from elements (fire), fire shield (chill shield), or similar magic. A Reflex save (DC 10 + 1/2 death knight's HD + death knight's Charisma modifier) reduces the damage by half.

Well in theory I guess I could say I was targeting the front door since no one is going to come outside. I had intended to just wait since it's not like we would get tired, but here we are.Last edited by Lioslaith; 2024-05-18 at 06:23 AM.

”Are you him? he shouts.
Telekinetic Disarm attempt:
(1d20+23)[33] (Includes deft maneuvers)
I guess I need questions answered as googl-fe is failing me
is this a Telekentic (psionic) power attempt to disarm? and Deft maneuvers where do I find them ?
or is this Telekinesis the spell ?
Saving Throw: Will negates (object) or None; see text
Spell Resistance: Yes (object); see text
Combat Maneuver: Alternatively, once per round, you can use telekinesis to perform a bull rush, disarm, grapple (including pin), or trip. Resolve these attempts as normal, except that they don't provoke attacks of opportunity, you use your caster level in place of your base attack bonus
No save is allowed against these attempts, but spell resistance applies normally. This version of the spell can last 1 round per caster level, but it ends if you cease concentration.

on the presumption that it is the spell and not a psionic power..
*
Disarm Opponent
The wielder of a two-handed weapon on a disarm attempt gets a +4 bonus on this roll
the larger combatant gets a bonus on the attack roll of +4 per difference in size category

Ethereal Man Opposed Disarmed attempt
(1d20+41)[60]
Actions:
Wield Weapon with 2 hands:
use Psionic Power
Concussion Blast (augmented)
Saving Throw: None
Power Resistance: Yes (DC:30)
(the 2 guys charging) are pummeled with telekinetic force:((5d6)[16]) points of force damage.
Concussion blast always affects a subject within range that you can see, even if the subject is in melee or has cover or concealment (you cannot use this power against creatures with total cover or total concealment).
Nonmagical, unattended objects (including doors, walls, locks, and so on) may also be damaged by this power.Last edited by samduke; 2024-05-18 at 09:06 AM.
