Robin fires an arrow at Merry, missing. A thunderous explosion goes off, leaving Robin reeling. Hyra's summoned Celestial fires an arrow, striking the half-orc and killing him

You're exploring the ruined dwarven city of Dwimmerdwell, It fell three hundred years ago, the defenders dying to the last. Yet supposedly, the attackers died. Everyone who has come to explore or loot it has failed to report back. Rumors say that a last dwarven guardian still lives... yet even dwarves don't live that long, do they?
You proceed down the streets in a cluster... they are broad, and the buildings around you are ruined, with gaping holes marking doors, holes, or battle damage. Most don't even have roofs any more. The cavern ceiling arches high above, up to 200' in places.
You hear a rapid squeaking noise, and see an elderly dwarven woman in armor appear, moving rather quickly (Haste) - or rather, you see four of her, wreathed in flames, in a wheelchair, far ahead of you. She touches her armor, and suddenly abandons the wheelchair for flight as the armor glows.

Lanius fires a volley of arrows, one of which pops a mirror image, and two more which hit (25 damage). Merry casts a defensive spell. Jessica moves up and dodges. Hyra's celestial fires three arrows, all of which miss. The dwarf's Haste spell is dispelled, as are Freedom of Movement, Fire Shield, and Mirror Image.
Dazed, the dwarf is unable to move.

Lanius fires two arrows, one of which finds a gap and lodges deep in the dwarf's armor (crit! 32, + 11, + 6 sneak = 49). Merry moves closer, but is unable to land a spell. Hyra's Celestial lands two arrows (12 & 17) as the group moves closer.
A mechanical bird clinging to the dwarf's back is briefly visible as it activates a ring.

The next bolt seems more powerful, if less well-aimed. The dwarf drifts behind some walls, putting her out of view for now.

The mechanical bird triggers a spell again, and the armored figure drifts up, firing two bolts of lightning at Merry.

Lanius fires two shots, both hitting for 19 & 14. The first arrow drops her to 0, and she uses her reaction to un-attune to an item, so she goes to hp instead. Then the second arrow hits and kills her.
Had that not worked...
Merry's Disintegrate hits for 77 damage.
Jessica's Moonbeam burns for 3 damage.

It took two days of pursuit into the trackless Stone Wastes, but you think you've come close to bringing Goethe to bay. An agent of some fiendish power, he's responsible for several mass killings and assassinations, but always seems to get away.
The wastes are a harsh and barren place, and this area in particular is made up of great stone pillars that reach up out of the ground like a hundred blunt-tipped fingers. Step off a pillar, and you fall sixty feet to the stone below.

Suddenly, he's there, about 130' in front of you. Maybe he was invisible, or perhaps you've come close enough that his trickery is no longer enough. Lanius fires three arrows. Despite his invisibility, the foe tries to move out of their way (no advantage; Foresight), but two still hit (15, 16, 7 = 39). The warlock points his staff at the group and speaks a ----. You can't understand it, but you soon have other concerns. Everything goes dark, but it's not a quiet dark, or a lonely dark. Things brush up against you.... things that shouldn't be.

60' radius sphere, spreads around corners. Dark even to Darkvision. Creature starting their turns within the area take 8d8 psychic damage, Wis DC 26 half.

Darkness had engulfed her and vanished just as quickly thanks to Jessica's quick intervention. Hyra jumps forwards, crossing to the next nearest tower, and launches a spell of unmaking at her own, while her celestial begins its barrage.
